FAQs

Who can be a member of the Highlands Neighborhood Association?
What do I have to do to become a member?

Membership qualifications are defined by the HNA governing documents. Briefly, owners of businesses or property located in the Highlands, and/or individuals who live in the Highlands, who are over 18 years of age and are current on annual membership dues can be a member.

How much does it cost to become a member?
Annual membership dues are defined by the HNA governing documents. They are presently $20 annually.

What is PayPal?
Is using PayPal through HNA's website safe?

PayPal is an online service that allows secure transferring of funds. You can pay by using a personalized PayPal account, or you can use a credit card through PayPal without having an account. When you use PayPal through HNA's website, the website redirects you to PayPal's service, which is secured and encrypted to protect your information. When you use your credit card, no one at HNA ever sees your credit card number or information. Like all online transactions, you must be careful how you transmit data, such as if you are on a public network or at home.

If you feel uncomfortable sending personal or financial information online, then please consider one of the other ways of sending in membership dues.

Why use PayPal?
Does using PayPal add costs?

Using PayPal makes it more convenient for some Highlands residents to join or renew memberships. With PayPal, individuals can use credit cards or PayPal accounts to pay membership dues, which is more convenient for some individuals compared to writing checks and sending the checks in the mail. Also, PayPal gives transaction discounts to non-profit organizations, so while it does cost a fraction of the membership dues to use the service, this disadvantage is worth the improved experience for those who use it. The membership dues structure, however, includes the fees for the service, so members still only pay $20 in annual dues.

What are members expected to do?
Besides meeting the basic requirements of membership (see:
What do I have to do to become a member?), there are no additional requirements for members. However, members are encouraged to participate in meetings and events of HNA to actively help build a stronger neighborhood.

Is the Highlands Neighborhood Association a non-profit organization?
HNA is registered as a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization with the state of Nebraska.
